almost 4 star product! but... Jul 08, 2010
By P. Seth Amazon was great about shipping this, free with prime and it arrived two days after placing the order! Product came well packed and protected and decent construction quality at first glance. The leather/faux leather maybe seems a little fragile but not a big deal.
Here are my issues; #1- the rods the chair sits on are supposed to be screwed on to the base. This is the only assembly required, which is wonderful, but... the nuts were screwed in so tight, I damaged the allen wrench (very poor quality) that came with, trying to remove them. Had to run to the hardware store for some WD30 and a new wrench to get this thing assembled. An annoyance that could have been avoided so easily! #2 - after finally getting the screws out and ready to attach rods to the base, it turned out that one rod was wider than the corresponding gap between flanges on the base (~1/4"). Had to hammer one end into place to get things going... Made me wonder whether this was $370 (+$15 on accessories) well spent... Then again, the originals run ~$3000.
About the chair itself - I'm reasonably happy... its comfortable, looks nice. The drum cushion is a little awkward though. Happier using it as required, un-attached to the chair. Happy shopping!

This is a great chair with a few qualifiers. Jul 08, 2011

This is a great chair at the best price out there!
I am a somewhat 'fluffy' person, but I still fit in it as the size is a bit more generous in length and width than other models out there. It is also comfortable, fitting all the body curves in the right place and the stretchy bands supporting the pad provide an extra level of cushiness. The frame sits evenly on the base with no gaps or irregularities.
Assembly was easy, with the most difficult part removing all of the packaging. Once that is done, assembly only involves undoing the screws from the 2 support rods and replacing them once they are attached to the frame. I had a problem with one screw that was too tight, but managed to loosen it after a few minutes. There are no instructions, but they are not needed.
The only issues I have with the chair are workable. As others have said, I removed the pink foam from the head pillow as it was way too big and rock hard. I replaced it with some rolled up old sheets and pillow cases to provide softness and moldability. I also anchored the pillow further down the chair to fit my neck area. It's adjustable and can be fixed anywhere on the frame.
The chair is supposed to be adjustable by raising and lowering the incline of the frame on the base, but, as others have stated, it slips down and will not stay upright even when you are not sitting in it. I solved this by taking an old black leather purse strap and simply tying the end of the frame to the base to keep the chair upright. While inconvenient, I can adjust the length of the strap to adjust the incline position. I like the recline position of the chair in its most upright state, so it is not a problem as I don't see adjusting it much. This is not a chair for those who want to sit completely upright though, as even in its highest position, you are not sitting straight up. I find it perfectly fine for laptop work, reading and watching T.V. though.
The only major issue I have with the chair is that I see the support straps having to be replaced at some point, especially in the butt area, as those are the ones that stretch the most when you sit down. While all you need do is pull the metal clips holding the straps to the frame which is quite easy, I am not happy with the lack of info as to where to purchase replacements. I checked the Baxton website, but did not see any replacements available. I am assuming there is a place to buy them somewhere.
All in all, this is a great looking, surprising comfortable chair for a great price with the few workable problems listed above and I expect to enjoy it for years to come!
UPDATE
I still love the chair, but after only one week, the strap under the butt area is stretched and sagging. I contacted Amazon and they said they could not replace individual parts and did not sell them. I could return the whole chair, if I want to wait up to a month for my money and find a new box to ship it back in, which I don't.
I still have yet to find anywhere that sells replacement straps for these chairs. I'll probably have to come up with a solution of my own when my butt starts dragging on the floor!
Update:
The one strap under the butt has become totally stretched and periodically falls off, but the other straps have retained their shape. I still continue to love this chair, but need to find replacement straps somewhere.
Okay, but... Mar 17, 2012
By Arel Senrab Chaise arrived earlier than expected, but it was obvious the box had been opened, broken and resealed. There was no inventory list and not one word of instruction for assembly. Fortunately, I have had some experience in assembly and managed. No missing parts. I fell asleep quite readily on it after dinner in front of the TV so it works well.
First Impression: Cheap Imitation Dec 06, 2011
By Somebody First, a snap broke off one of the leather straps used to secure the cushion on to the base. I barely touched it. Second, the base is not balanced properly. The whole thing wobbles because one of the legs is shorter than the others (by almost one inch). They set one of the foot pads on wrong. I can probably fix it myself with a hammer but I think if they're going to install them they should install them carefully. The end result looks like they rushed and didn't check their work. I'm a little disappointed because these are quality issues that should be caught during a simple inspection before shipping.
Once assembled, I guess the chair looks nice - even with the missing strap. I'm keeping the chair, but I would pass if I could go back in time and do it over.
eams like on a budget Oct 28, 2011
By David P. Rideout couldn't afford an expensive eames chair for rental unit. this offers a good substitute. fits a narrow space and is fairly comfortable to recline on - watch television or read a book.
